Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification - what it is and why it matters!

All of our matches here at Matchstick Boutique are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified. But what exactly does this mean? The FSC Chain of Custody Certification independently verifies producers’ and distributors’ forest products (like our matches!) to make sure they are sourced, made, and sold with sustainability in mind.

Where are FSC-certified products sourced from?

FSC-certified products are sourced from either an FSC-certified forest, recycled materials, or another controlled source. FSC-certified forests must monitor and protect species to conserve biodiversity, prevent deforestation and maintain or restore ecosystems, including carbon stores. This means that FSC-certified products are made while protecting the forest wildlife, and do not destroy the carbon stores that play a crucial part in managing climate change.

An FSC Chain of Custody Certification ensures that every step in the supply chain adheres to FSC requirements, from when the product was sourced all the way to when it’s sold to you. This means that if you buy an FSC certified product, you’ll know it was produced ethically and with sustainability in mind, every step of the way.

What we do here at Matchstick Boutique:

The matches we offer are FSC certified, which means that each individual matchstick in our jars has been sourced responsibly! The suppliers we partner with adhere to Timber, Trade and Customs laws, and keep documents of all of their processes.

In addition to looking great and functioning well, we want to ensure our matches are sustainably made. We want you to feel confident about making a purchase from us, knowing that this is a product you can feel good about!
